Weekly Reflection 2

 5/22/22

8:30pm

Total Hours: 49

Week two of Senior Project was hands down one of the most tiring weeks of my school year. The combination of teaching, the art show, and sports definitely wore me out. I am still not sure about the whole teaching thing, but I think this week I was more successful and prepared than the first one. After setting up the art show, I can say the art teachers that do the work for it are some of the most under-appreciated for sure. I had no idea how much work it took to set it up. This week was full of a tone of work and I continued to learn about being a teacher. Jill was unfortunately still gone for the first part of the week, which meant I was on my own again with teaching her classes. I felt far more prepared to take on this week though with last week's experiences and knowledge. The classes went much smoother because I was more confident in just telling students to knock it off with the annoying stuff and do their work. I took on a different mentality as well to the kids that refused to cooperate in class. Instead of continuously bugging them to do their work, I more or less just made them sit there, rather than letting them leave when they kept asking. It also helped that most of the classes were the students preparing their work for the show, because I could easily instruct them on what to do. Even with that though, I do feel like this week was much more successful in the teaching department before Jill came back. I was so excited when Jill came back! The art show was a big eye opener into how much work the art teachers do for the school and the students to prepare it all. I was happy to help Jill set it up with the other art teachers, because I genuinely felt bad that they had so much work to do. I started the week off by printing all the photos from the Digital Photo class, which was over 25 photos. To go along with this, I got all the Studio Art classes pieces as well. Once I had collected all of these, Kate worked incredibly hard to help me out and matt the work. This is a job that I found incredibly annoying and I feel so lucky she was there to do all of them for me. Kate also then helped me hang up the art in the Meeting House before Jill came back. She did all of this for me, while also doing her own ceramics class, and all her work deserves a massive award if I could give her one. When Jill came back we had to print all the labels for the show. Not only did we have to do her classes, but we had to do every other label in the show, for every class, even those that were not hers. These two teachers deserve some kind of vacation and I am so grateful for all the help they gave me in getting the art show ready because I never could have without them. They truly are the best and spending time with them this week was definitely my highlight.

5/13/22 6:50pm I had to teach 3 classes today, the first of which was Textile Skills. This is a hard group to motivate, especially with out Jill, because the class requires a lot of her help on their projects. I am not the best at sewing, but Jill and I have been coming up with other projects for them to do that I can easily help with. After this class, I went over to Slocumb to teach Digital Photo. I had Jill on facetime and we helped students finalize their art show photos. This involves giving them names and making sure the editing is perfect. The last class of the day was Recycled Art. Some of the students worked on current projects while others did a new egg carton face project. The last thing I did, was working on the tree line of my landscape painting for the art show. I am working hard to finish it on time for the art show. Hours: 5.5 Total Hours: 23

5/9/22 9:20pm Today I met up with Jill in the morning to come up with a plan for the rest of the week. After coming up with the weekly plan we went to assembly to meet her advisory before her first class. Jill's first class was Recycled Art in which I helped students with their projects. I mainly helped a girl who was making a mosaic. I also came up with a lesson plan which involved making a google slides for the Studio Art class in the afternoon. Unfortunately, during lunch, Jill found out she tested positive for covid meant I was in charge of her classes while she was on video with us all. Before class, I came in and got all the canvases and palates ready for the students. My class plan involved a Van Gogh lesson where I made a slides of examples and then took students outside to paint the daffodils. Throughout this period, I helped students with their techniques and then directed them on what to do to clean up. At the end of the day, I had a call with Jill to come up with a pla...
