May 24th

5/24/22 4:00pm It was the last day of senior project so Jill and I tried to have the most fun we could. Definitely bittersweet because it was sad to have it be the last day with Jill. We started the morning off with her Studio Art class. Terry brought her horse to school as a model so that they could all draw it. After that I worked on my slideshow for the Wednesday night presentation time. I also went up to the Meeting House to get the art I had put in so I could have it at the presentations as well. The schedule change this week meant that we had three classes yesterday and only the one, Studio Art, today. So in the afternoon I worked on my title for the presentations which I am making on a poster board. So I will have a poster, paintings, and a slideshow for the presentation night. May 23rd

5/23/22 3:15pm Finally had a day of Senior Project that wasn't related to the art show which was a super nice break. In the morning I made a special cake for Jills daughters birthday party. Then for the first class of the day, Digital Photo, we went to the Meeting House to do an art show critique. We also did this for the second class of the day, Recycled Art. This involved having the students find what they deem as the best in the show. We had them find one from each of these categories: 3D sculptures, drawings/paintings, and photos. We also had them give feed back on the term about their likes and dislikes. The last thing we had them talk about was what effort grade they thought they deserved. We met in a circle and each student gave their answers on these questions. Looking forward to tomorrow even though I sad its the last day with Jill! Hours: 4  Total Hours: 53

Weekly Reflection 2

5/22/22 8:30pm Total Hours: 49 Week two of Senior Project was hands down one of the most tiring weeks of my school year. The combination of teaching, the art show, and sports definitely wore me out. I am still not sure about the whole teaching thing, but I think this week I was more successful and prepared than the first one. After setting up the art show, I can say the art teachers that do the work for it are some of the most under-appreciated for sure. I had no idea how much work it took to set it up. This week was full of a tone of work and I continued to learn about being a teacher. Jill was unfortunately still gone for the first part of the week, which meant I was on my own again with teaching her classes. I felt far more prepared to take on this week though with last week's experiences and knowledge. The classes went much smoother because I was more confident in just telling students to knock it off with the annoying stuff and do their work. I took on a different mentality a...

May 20th

5/20/22 7:15pm Today was the last day before the art show, which meant that we had to finish a lot for it. However, today was also Jill's busiest day with classes. We started the morning off with Textiles, where we worked on finishing art show projects, and got them into bags to bring over to the show. We then went to assembly and met her advisory. The second block was Digital Photo, and we took the class on a field trip to Blue Loon and Dunkin because they all had finished their art show work. The third class of the day was Recycled Art. Anyone who had projects left to bring up to the art show did, while Jill and I finalized all the labels. We then went to set up any art left and labeled all of the pieces as well. After school, the art show was from 6-7 which I spent welcoming people and checking in kids from Jill's classes.  Hours: 7 Total Hours: 49

May 19th

5/19/22 3:15pm  Today was Jill's first day back, and I was super excited about it! However, because the art show is tomorrow we had to do a ton of work to get everything ready for that. The first class we had this morning was Recycled Art. We set all their stuff up in the Meeting House and made sure that their labels were correct. After this Jill, Kate, and I hung up the paintings there. We then went to assembly with Jill to meet her advisory. Before the art show, all the labels have to be printed and stuck on little holders. This is what I did for the remaining time before lunch. After lunch, we had Jill's Studio Art class and we finished matting all the paintings and printing the labels. This took all afternoon and went into the next class because we also had to mat art for other classes. The last thing we did was hang up all the newly matted art.  Hours: 6 Total Hours: 42

May 18th

5/18/22 1:30pm Today was a busy task-filled day that was mainly still prepping for the art show and organizing. For the first part of the morning I organized photos. Then when the Digital Photo class came in we brought them up to the Meeting House. Kate and I hung them in groups which involved matching ones that highlighted and brought more to the photos when together. After we hung all those up I had to organize past art that we took down to make room for Friday's art show. Slocumb gets very overcrowded with past artwork so it has to be cleaned out. While on the phone with Jill we split the art up by dorm so that I could deliver them. I walk around to each dorm drop off the art pieces. I am super excited for Jill to come back tomorrow. May 17th

5/17/22 3:30pm The art show is coming up at the end of the week which means that there is a lot of prep work to do. I started the morning off with a Digital Photo class, and they helped move art from Slocumb to the Meeting House. There is a lot to do to get everything set up in the Meeting House. Kate has been working hard to get all the matting done for these paintings and photos while I get the class to collect their work. We also put table cloths over the tables Kate was so nice to set up yesterday. For the next part of the morning, I printed all the photos from Digital Photo that have been decided for the art show. This was a long process because printing photos onto the special paper takes a lot more time than just regular printing. After this, I went to a meeting with my advisor, Kelly, and some other teachers, about the health and wellness of students. We talked about why students are so unmotivated to come out of their dorms. It was an interesting discussion. The last thin...

May 16th

5/16/22 3:00pm Unfortunately, Jill still has covid at the moment, but fingers crossed she will be able to come back soon. As it was the first day of the week again I had to teach Recycled Art and Studio Art. The first class was Recycled Art and some students helped me take down the current art in the Meeting House to make room for the new art. Other students continued to finish up their projects for the art show. They have to have them done by our next class because the art show is this Friday. Before the next class, I worked on my landscape painting and I almost finished it. In the last block of the day I taught Studio Art. Corby and Kate helped me show the students what they needed to do for the art show. This involved matting which is basically making a small frame for the exact size of the art piece. Corby also gave a demo to the students on how to gloss a painting as a final touch.  Hours: 4.5 Total: 27.5

Weekly Reflection 1

5/15/22 8:45pm Total Hours: 23 Honestly, this week was not the first week of my senior project that I had hoped for or could have imagined. I was so beyond excited to spend this week with one of my favorite teachers, Jill Jones Grotnes. In my head, I had envisioned us working together during classes and having fun doing projects out of the classroom. Covid had not even crossed my mind in my thoughts about my senior project. Instead, on the first day Jill tested positive, and after that, I spent the whole week worrying about if I was going to have covid or not. Questions like, was I going to be able to play in my tennis playoffs this weekend or would I even be able to get enough hours were constantly swirling around my brain. Due to this covid situation, I was definitely surprised and thrown into the deep end. Jill and I joked “Go big or go home” right before I had to teach my first solo class. There were so many things I learned this week like the confirmation that I still find te...

May 13th

5/13/22 6:50pm I had to teach 3 classes today, the first of which was Textile Skills. This is a hard group to motivate, especially with out Jill, because the class requires a lot of her help on their projects. I am not the best at sewing, but Jill and I have been coming up with other projects for them to do that I can easily help with. After this class, I went over to Slocumb to teach Digital Photo. I had Jill on facetime and we helped students finalize their art show photos. This involves giving them names and making sure the editing is perfect. The last class of the day was Recycled Art. Some of the students worked on current projects while others did a new egg carton face project. The last thing I did, was working on the tree line of my landscape painting for the art show. I am working hard to finish it on time for the art show. Hours: 5.5 Total Hours: 23

May 12th

5/12/22 6:50pm Today was a busy day in which I taught two classes and did my art again. The two classes I taught were Recycled Art and Studio Art. Recycled Art was the first block of the morning where I helped a girl in the class with her embroidery piece. The other students continued to work on their current projects for the art show. After this class, I worked on adding the sky to my landscape painting. I am going to work on others for the art show as well in the upcoming week. I also trimmed my flower painting that is going in the art show so that it was a better size. In the third block of today, I taught Studio Art. I helped them finish paintings for the art show and try a new project. This new project was a hand painting involving both paint and drawing. Throughout both classes, I helped Jill talk to students via facetime and I also got her packages while she is in quarantine.  Hours: 4.5 Total Hours: 17.5

May 11th

5/11/22 7:50pm To start today I off, I went to teach Jill's Studio Art class. Some of the students were finishing up old projects and I gave the others new painting projects. I also worked on my landscape painting, which is a view from my house. I continued to work on the outline for it. I got some good work in on the mountain range and outlining where the trees and field meet. After this class, I taught Jills Digital Photo class which was the second block of today. For the first part of the class, they went out to finish taking photos of their favorite places. While I was waiting for them to come back Jill and I caught up and planned for the rest of the block. When they came back I helped Jill via facetime check in with each student and their progress. Throughout this time I also helped with editing pictures. I had an early tennis match today so I had to leave during the third block. Hours: 3 Total Hours 13

May 10th

5/10/22 7:30pm For the first part of today, I taught Jill's classes. The first one was Digital Photo and the second class was Textile Skills. In Digital Photo I explained their current assignment which was a photo project about their favorite place on campus. They then went out to take pictures and when they came back I helped them edit. The Textile Skills class already had projects, so I helped them continue to work on those. Throughout the Textiles class, I helped Jill check in with students and their progress via facetime. After teaching classes I worked on my personal art for the rest of the afternoon. This involved starting new landscape paintings. I am going to work on this painting again in the following days. Below are pictures of students from the classes I taught earlier. Hours: 5.5  Total Hours: 10

May 9th

5/9/22 9:20pm Today I met up with Jill in the morning to come up with a plan for the rest of the week. After coming up with the weekly plan we went to assembly to meet her advisory before her first class. Jill's first class was Recycled Art in which I helped students with their projects. I mainly helped a girl who was making a mosaic. I also came up with a lesson plan which involved making a google slides for the Studio Art class in the afternoon. Unfortunately, during lunch, Jill found out she tested positive for covid meant I was in charge of her classes while she was on video with us all. Before class, I came in and got all the canvases and palates ready for the students. My class plan involved a Van Gogh lesson where I made a slides of examples and then took students outside to paint the daffodils. Throughout this period, I helped students with their techniques and then directed them on what to do to clean up. At the end of the day, I had a call with Jill to come up with a pla...
